can do more sharpen! the way i do icons is that i duplicate the og layer twice; first layer gets a 40% gaussian blur, second layer gets 100% smart sharpen. so in order, i have 40% gaussian, 20% gaussian and 0% gaussian:



if 0% blur 100% sharpen is still not enough, i can up the strength of the sharpen to your liking!
